This news was updated with release date details on September 25.

Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy S24 FE will reportedly be more expensive than its predecessor and will be released next week, according to new leaks.

The specs news comes from reputable leakster OnLeaks. SmartPriceSamsung will reportedly raise the price of the Galaxy S24 FE in the US to $649 for the 128GB version and $709 for the 256GB storage model. That’s a $50 price increase over the Galaxy S23 FE, which launched last year at $599.

This price increase is thought to be due to Samsung’s new software promises. SmartPrice Samsung says it will offer seven years of Android updates and security patches when the S24 FE launches, which lines up with Google’s new(ish) promise of updates and Apple’s unofficial seven-year policy.

We don’t know how much of the promised seven years will be for Android updates or security patches, but considering the Galaxy S24 offered seven years for both and Samsung is rumored to be doing the same similar For its cheapest A-series devices, it’s safe to assume the Korean company will provide the S24 FE with a full amount of OS upgrades.

Supporting devices for that long is expensive, and that could be reflected in the new price. The story also notes that the phone will, unsurprisingly, launch with the Galaxy AI, which Samsung is currently working on. rolling out to millions of older Galaxy devices. This also has its own costs. Samsung is likely to charge additional fees for access to its AI toolset next year.

Given the company’s recent aggressive promotions, it’s likely that Samsung will drop the price of the Galaxy S24 FE in the near future. Expect the Galaxy S24 FE to launch with some generous pre-order deals and store credit toward a Samsung wearable—a deal the organization likes to throw out for big launches.

Elsewhere, the Galaxy S24 FE will come equipped with a 4600mAH battery, a 6.7-inch AMOLED Full HD display with 120Hz refresh rate, and the Exynos 2400e chip with 8GB of RAM. The camera loadout is the same as last year’s model, with a 50MP main sensor, a 12MP ultra-wide, and an 8MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom.
