Chelsea 5-0 Barrow PLAYER RATINGS: Whose finishing was like Zola’s? Which new signing struggled early on? And who was a class ahead?

Chelsea 5-0 Barrow PLAYER RATINGS: Whose finishing was like Zola’s? Which new signing struggled early on? And who was a class ahead?

Enzo Maresca made 11 changes to his Chelsea squad for Tuesday night’s clash with Barrow as his £416million B side were crushed 5-0 in the Carabao Cup.

Mail Sport’s AADAM PATEL was at Stamford Bridge to assess the players’ performances, with one Chelsea forward producing a strike that resembled Blues legend Gianfranco Zola’s and another producing a world-class performance.

But it wasn’t easy for everyone, with one midfielder struggling early on and Ben Chilwell making his first appearance of the season.

Chelsea will have the opportunity to focus on the Premier League campaign as they prepare for European competitions in the days following their away match against Brighton on Saturday.

But first, they can have a successful night at the Bridge, with Blues stars shining throughout the game.

Chelsea (4-2-3-1)

Filip Jorgensen – 7

Chelsea have made 11 changes since their win over West Ham but still had a starting XI that cost more than £400m. The 22-year-old Danish-Swedish goalkeeper didn’t have much to do but he delivered whenever he was asked to and his remarkable long shot was the standout.

Good Taste – 7.5

He returned to the team after injury and showed his class in the first half, providing a great assist for Nkunku’s second goal, a solid first touch before curling in a low cross. He won the free kick for the third goal and was generally very good on the right wing before being substituted by Ben Chilwell just before half-time. Always a treat to watch.

Axel Disasi-7

I doubt he will have an easier time throughout the season and he missed out on a goal-scoring opportunity when Paul Farman’s header was not held in. He was brought on for Joshua Acheampong just after the hour mark.

Benoit Badiashile – 7

He had a great day on the night, with 134 touches on the night – more than any other player and winning more aerial battles (five) than anyone else – and it was a solid evening at the office for the 23-year-old as Chelsea kept a clean sheet for the third time in a row.

Renato Veiga-8

The Portuguese youth international was preferred to Ben Chilwell on the left and justified his start, playing a key role in the opening goal with a pass across the line to Joao Felix from the centre. He was also excellent defensively as he showed his versatility by slotting in at centre-back after Chilwell came on as a substitute.

Cesare Casadei-6.5

He made it easy against the Barrow midfield, they couldn’t cope. He offers something in attack and defence and the Italian will improve with more playing time.

Kiernan Dewsbury Hall – 6.5

He struggled to get into the game early on but grew in confidence and became comfortable with the ball, never looking anything special, and almost scored with a volley that was superbly saved by the Barrow keeper.

Pedro Neto-7.5

Chelsea’s insane squad depth was epitomised by the introduction of Neto, signed from Wolves for £54m in the summer. He added a clever pass to Gusto for the second goal and scored his first Chelsea goal early in the second half with a simple finish. It was a productive night at the office before he was substituted just after the hour mark.

Neto also played in the second goal, scoring his first goal in a blue jersey with a simple finish

Joao Felix was a step-up who ran circles around Barrow all evening and got his fair share of the chance with an own goal

Joao Felix – 9

A class apart. His link-up with Nkunku was deadly, opening with an audacious lob pass. He took advantage of a slice of luck when his free-kick hit the post and bounced off the Barrow keeper, but that was the least he deserved after running circles around Barrow all evening.

Mykhailo Mudryk-7

Enzo Maresca called on Mudryk to improve before the match and after a quiet start the Ukrainian showed some bright sparks. Credit to him for his selflessness as he took a nice shot at Neto’s goal and collected the goal pass, but he would have loved to have scored.

Christopher Nkunku-9.5

If Nkunku can stay fit, he will be lethal. He has scored six goals in 330 minutes of football for Chelsea this season, an average of one every 55 minutes. He is Chelsea’s best finisher and showed his class with a magnificent three-goal haul. His first goal was well taken and his second came with a Zola-esque strike past the keeper.

And he showed his hunger, stealing Farman’s ball and slotting home the ball into an empty net. The Frenchman only played 13 times in all competitions last season but has tremendous quality and could be a force under Maresca.

If Nkunku can stay fit he will be an important player – he has six goals in 330 minutes of football this season

Backups

Ben Chilwell-6

He was not in the starting line-up but came on as a substitute for Gusto at half-time, which seemed to be Maresca’s pre-match plan. He was on the pitch for the first time since April and looked confident, albeit against a weak opponent.

Tyrique George- 6

The 18-year-old came on for the final half hour, playing on the right wing, and should have scored his first Chelsea goal of the season but he lobbed the ball wide from a few yards out as the goalkeeper had only one goal to go through.

Joshua Acheampong- 6

Another 18-year-old who came on for the last half hour, replacing Disasi and playing at right-back, is regarded as one of the best talents to come out of Cobham alongside George.
