The beloved Rodecaster board gets a video production version

Like much of the podcast world, We loved It took half a dozen years, but microphone maker Rode is finally expanding its user-friendly product line into the video world.

Rodecaster Video It faces much tougher competition than the original Pro card. In this post-pandemic era where video is at the forefront, many similar devices have been released. It also has to contend with a hefty $1,119 price tag — nearly double the Pro’s $600 asking price.

Rode is also aiming to attract the same novice category it attracted with the first Pro: those who want to take their video production skills to the next level but aren’t quite ready to commit to a full pro system.

While the Pro is focused entirely on in-person audio podcasting, the Video casts a wider net, spanning from one-person Twitch streamers to multi-person in-studio video production. The new model is more compact than the original, as it’s meant to sit in front of a computer rather than in the middle of a podcasting desk.

It features a pair of Neutrik jacks with preamps for XLR microphones, along with four HDMI and two USB-C inputs, allowing users to switch between video sources in real time. Audio processing, meanwhile, includes a compressor, high-pass filter, de-esser, and EQ with noise gate.

It can automatically cue green and blue screens, switch audio between video sources, and stream to “all major platforms” via Wi-Fi or wired over Ethernet and USB. It can also record directly to a connected external hard drive.

“For decades, our mission has been to empower creators with professional yet accessible audio equipment,” CEO Damien Wilson said in a press release. “Groundbreaking innovations like the Rodecaster Pro and Wireless GO have transformed the way people approach content creation across multiple categories, bringing studio-grade audio solutions within reach of today’s creators. With Rodecaster Video, we’re doing the same for video production.”

The Rodecaster Video is available for pre-order today and will ship on October 10th.
