Traffic and Parking Information for Founders Day Events and 2024 Graduation Ceremony

The weekend of September 26-29 will be an especially busy time at Duke, with concerts, football games, and various Centennial, homecoming, and community celebrations taking place on campus.

To regulate traffic flow and congestion on the Durham campus and ensure the safety of community members and visitors eventsHere are some settings to keep in mind.

Friday, September 27

Read this A to Z Event Guide For important information regarding bag check, security, parking, accessibility and other information regarding the Centennial Program and Concert.

Among the events taking place at Duke on Friday: George and George-Frank Wall Student Life Center Founder’s Day Centennial at 4:00 PM and 7:30 PM on East Campus Celebration and Concert Grammy-winning singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran, Durham-based acclaimed hip hop artist 9th Wonder and comedian, actress and Duke alumna Retta will take place at Brooks Field at Wallace Wade Stadium.

What you need to know:

  • Starting around 4:30 p.m. on Friday and throughout the concert, access to West Campus will be restricted to those with a DukeCard ID, Duke parking permit, or concert ticket.
  • If you are going to attend a concert, check out the stadium bag policy.
  • All Duke bus routes will continue operating regular programs On Friday evening, although the Duke minibus service will not operate. Between 16:00 and 23:30, additional buses C1 East-West route. Additional buses from 6:40 am to 11:30 pm, PR1 route.
  • Students, staff and faculty attending the concert are encouraged to park their vehicles in their regular parking areas and use the additional C-1, PR1 and Concert Express bus routes for drop-off and pick-up near Wallace Wade Stadium.

Saturday, September 28

Duke will face hometown rival North Carolina in a 4 p.m. game at Brooks Field in Wallace Wade Stadium. Expect crowds around West Campus.

What you need to know:

  • Vehicle access to West Campus will be restricted to permit holders only.

Sunday, September 29

The Pride: Durham, NC The event will feature a parade starting at 11 a.m. and will require temporary closures of Trinity Avenue, Main Street, Broad Street, Knox Street and portions of Ninth Street. The event will also feature a Community Giveback celebration on East Campus from 1-4 p.m.

What you need to know:

  • Expect delays and congestion around East Campus from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Public parking for the parade and Community Giveback will be available on East Campus. Epworth Land and nearby Smith Warehouse There are lots on Maxwell Street.
