Recent arrests of illegal immigrants on the islands Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard in Massachusetts It has caught the attention of the country.

Over the past month, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has made at least six arrests on the islands as part of a broader operation to apprehend suspected illegal immigrants accused of serious crimes, particularly in coastal towns. Biden and the Obama families.

“I think a lot of people are concerned about the violent illegal population. … The biggest thing is, if they’re here illegally, you don’t know anyone’s background. Legal immigrants will even discuss that,” Nantucket GOP chairman Toby Brown told Fox News Digital.

Most of the immigrants on this idyllic island off the coast of Cape Cod, including some who reside there illegally, are good, active members of society, Brown said. But residents remain concerned about those fleeing violent pasts in their home countries.

“It’s such a small island that I see things getting a little worse on Nantucket,” he said, although he noted that there are multiple reasons why crime and poverty have increased on the island in recent years.

These are issues that seem to be largely avoided by the ultra-wealthy islanders, he said.

“I think the ultra-rich summer people don’t see the same thing as someone who lives here locally.”

“Once again, they’re on big land. And unfortunately, on Nantucket, the mainstream press, for the most part, wants people to think that this place is still like Disneyland and that we have no problems on the island.”

“Warley Neto allegedly repeatedly assaulted a Massachusetts child and poses a significant threat to the safety of our neighborhoods,” ERO Boston Field Office Director Todd M. Lyons said in a statement at the time. “We are grateful for the cooperation of the Dukes County Sheriff’s Office in prioritizing public safety and allowing custody of Neto to be safely transferred to ERO. Local jurisdictions are refusing to accept immigration detainers and are sending dangerous criminals back into society to re-offend. ERO Boston will continue to apprehend and remove the most egregious non-citizen criminals in New England.”

Massachusetts has a number of cities called “sanctuary cities” where local law enforcement does not always comply with arrest requests from federal authorities.

A June report by the Center for Immigration Studies estimated that there were approximately 355,000 “illegal and inadmissible” immigrants living in Massachusetts, with 50,000 new arrivals since 2021. It also reported that 10,000 of the immigrants were minors and 8,500 were unaccompanied.

Two years ago, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis sent two planes transporting illegal immigrants The governor’s communications director, Taryn Fenske, told Fox News Digital at the time that he was sent to Nantucket as part of “the state’s resettlement program to relocate illegal immigrants to places of refuge.”

“By designating themselves as ‘sanctuary states’ and supporting the Biden administration’s open border policies, states like Massachusetts, New York and California will better facilitate the care of these individuals they have invited into our country,” he said.
