New Braunfels police say suspect was injured after pointing a shotgun at officers

NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas – A man who allegedly pointed a shotgun at New Braunfels police officers over the weekend remains hospitalized, the department said.

The 63-year-old suspect was involved in a disturbance in the 1200 block of Roaring Falls, not far from Loop 337, around 8 p.m. Sunday.

Police said the man, whose identity has not yet been released, initially refused to leave a residence and instead charged outside a window with a shotgun.

Investigators said one of the police officers who arrived at the scene fired his weapon through that window.

Police said the suspect came out a short time later with a knife in his hand.

Police officials said officers later neutralized the suspect and took him into custody.

The suspect was taken to hospital after being detained and his life was reported to be non-threatening.

It is not yet known whether the injuries were caused by a gunshot.

Police said the incident is still under investigation and formal charges will be filed against the man once he is released from hospital.

The officer who fired his weapon is a patrol sergeant with 17 years of experience with the NBPD. He is on administrative leave pending the results of an investigation by the Texas Rangers.
