Deputies: Two men stole trailer, took it to North Carolina and sold it

ORLEANS COUNTY, NY — Two men are accused of stealing a trailer containing an expensive roofing machine.

Paul Rutherford Jr., 51, and Cori Rutherford, 27, were arrested after stealing a trailer containing a roofing machine, taking it to North Carolina and selling it for $4,000, according to police.

The roofing machine inside the trailer is worth over $100,000.

Deputies say Paul has an extensive criminal history, having been arrested more than 28 times in New York State and convicted of four felonies. Paul was arrested in February after police said he stole diesel fuel and tools from farms.

Both men were arraigned in Orleans County Court on September 20 after the indictment was unsealed. Cori was charged with second-degree grand larceny and released.

The following charges were made against Paul:

  • Two charges of second-degree grand larceny
  • He was charged with two counts of third-degree grand larceny
  • Third degree burglary
  • Criminal damages in the fourth degree

Paul was arrested on $25,000 cash and $50,000 bail, posted bail, and was released the same day.
