Mohun Bagan vs NorthEast United FC Player Ratings: Dippendu and Subhasish impress, Gurmeet and Muthu disappoint

The Mariners made a late comeback to get their first win of the season.

Mohun Bagan Super Giant overcome North East United FC In a 3-2 win Indian Super League (ISL) Monday, 2024-25. Jose Molina’s team fell behind in the first half despite the home fans’ enthusiastic energy, thanks to Mohammed Bemammer’s stunning goal from outside the penalty area.

The Highlanders’ lead didn’t last as long as they would have liked as Mariners wonderkid Dippendu Biswas equalised from Dimitri Petratos’ cross. Alaeddine Ajaraie scored again in the 24th minute to put Juan Pedro Benali’s men ahead and silence the Mariners fans.

Subhasish Bose’s equaliser in the 61st minute looked like a foul as he went dangerously over Gurmeet, but the referee sent off the protesting NorthEast United players. Sahal and Jason Cummings were superb substitutes coming off the bench and put Mohun Bagan ahead. The match ended in the home side’s favour as they took all three points and frustrated the energetic Highlanders.

Here are the scores of Indian players in the match.

Mohun Bagan (by Riddhiman Sarkar)

Vishal Kaith – 6

He should have done better than Bemammer’s strike as he was left defenceless by a bullet heading towards his near post. He recovered and dominated the penalty area with a punch and four saves.

Ashish Rai – 5.5

Ajaraie almost constantly left a big gap behind him as he took advantage of wide areas from diagonal balls. It allowed the attacker to run inside and mount an early counter-attack, but the Mariners were helped by the near post. We watched as Ajaraie rolled the ball to Bemammer and Bemammer spiked the ball first time.

Dippendu Biswas – 8

He effortlessly brushed off the pressure but gave the ball away once in the early stages. He made up for this by equalising from a corner, scoring his first goal and proving he is a tough man to beat with his sword-wielding tackles and careful marking.

Subhashish Bose – 7.5

The Mariners captain was solid going forward and equally exemplary in defence but calmed down as the match progressed. He slotted the ball into the net to equalise for his team once again, but at the cost of a potentially dangerous clash with Gurmeet.

Anirudh Thapa – 6.5

Thapa held his own in the middle of the park and positioned himself well to clear the ball out of pressure. However, his defensive positioning and contributions were questionable as the Indian international lost the ball four times and won the only ground challenge he fought in. He was substituted in the 58th minute for Sahal.

Lalengmawia Ralte (Apuia) – 6.5

Apuia maintained a well-oiled midfield with one-touch passes and confident dribbles with Thapa, but felt the pressure mount in the second half as his stamina began to wane. He still managed to win all six ground duels and the only aerial duel

Liston Cola – 7

Liston was Mohun Bagan’s live wire on the left, causing problems for the entire NorthEast United defence with his direct dribbles and drawing fouls left and right. When given permission to roam, he dropped deep to help his team play from the back.

Manvir Singh – 6.5

Twinkle-toe and physically dominant, he was unable to threaten the Highlanders’ goal enough to cause Gurmeet problems and was substituted in the 58th minute after missing a great chance to Jason Cummings.

Sahal Abdul Samad – 7

Once on the field, he moved quickly and decisively, finding his teammates and trying to open up the Highlanders’ stubborn defence, with his highlight being the assist for the winning goal from a precise pass into the penalty area to Jason Cummings.

Deepak Tangri – 6.5

He came on in the final moments of the match and did his job well.

NorthEast United FC (from Parashar Kalita)

Gurmeet Singh – 5

A tough day for the Highlanders’ No. 1 goalkeeper. Mohun Bagan’s attackers tested him consistently at the highest level. He was a bit lucky in the 36th minute as Manvir’s header missed the target and Míchel Zabaco made a last-man save.

However, his luck ran out in the rain when the referees missed a clear foul on the line, resulting in a second goal for the Mariners. They nearly conceded another goal in the 85th minute.

Jithin MS – 7

The golden boy created a counter-attack by saving a ball in the 23rd minute from the defensive line and made an assist to the in-form Alaeddine Ajaraie. The manager changed his position to a right winger. He was not as involved in defensive duties in the first half and a little support to teammate Dinesh could have been better.

Tondonba Singh – 6

The left-back was tasked with handling Manvir Singh, the opening goal could have been avoided had he handled Dipendu Biswas better.

Asheer Akhtar – 5.5

While performing his duties as shortstop, he faced the tough challenge of the Mariners’ potent offensive line.

Dinesh Singh – 5.5

In the Durand Cup replay, he was given the responsibility of defending Liston. He performed well but was shown a yellow card in the process. His complete focus on Liston left space for Dimitri Petratos on that side.

Muthu Mayakannan – 5

Muthu has become a key player in NorthEast United FC’s midfield. He was shown a yellow card early in the match for an unnecessary foul and lost the ball frequently in the second half. Like Tondonba, if he had put some pressure on Dipendu, the first goal could have been prevented.

Macarton Louis Nickson – 6.5

He made his first start of the season. The youngster was given the task of marking Néstor Albiach. He took corners for NEUFC, but most were of below average quality. His second corner was a threat but was cleared by Manvir. He also played in defence.
