Netflix’s Best New Movie Has a Nearly Perfect 97% Critic Score

Netflix’s Best New Movie Has a Nearly Perfect 97% Critic Score

Netflix’s old “check out 80 movies before settling on one” challenge may have at least a temporary answer, based on a new original film the service has released. After scoring a major victory with Rebel Ridge (which I also highly recommend), a new film has come out with nearly perfect critic scores, Three Daughters.

The film currently has an impressive 97% rating from 114 critics On Rotten TomatoesIt’s a little crazy to maintain that rating with so many reviews. It also has an 88% viewer rating, which is definitely solid.

The cast is incredible. The Three Girls in question include Natasha Lyonne from Poker Face and Orange is the New Black , Carrie Coon from The Leftovers and The Gilded Age , and Elizabeth Olsen herself, the Scarlet Witch, who many fans are hoping will eventually appear in Disney’s Agatha All Along . But first, something a lot more prestigious. Here’s the official synopsis for the film:

“From writer-director Azazel Jacobs (French Exit, The Lovers) comes this bittersweet and often hilarious tale of an aging patriarch and his three adult daughters who join him in his final days. Katie (Carrie Coon), a controlling Brooklyn mom coping with a rebellious teenage daughter; free-spirited Christina (Elizabeth Olsen), a different mother separated from her child for the first time; and Rachel (Natasha Lyonne), a sports bettor turned drug addict who has never left her father’s house, much to the chagrin of her half-sisters. Continuing his brilliant exploration of family dynamics in their tight-knit community, Jacobs follows the siblings through three volatile days as death looms, grievances bubble, and love seeps through the cracks of a fractured home.”

Again, there are stellar ratings here, but so far it hasn’t quite climbed the Netflix Top 10 list. It started off lower, climbing to #4, but is currently ahead of The Garfield Movie, Uglies, and Rebel Ridge. But if there’s enough positive word of mouth, who knows, it could finally make it to the top despite not being an action movie or about a big CGI cat.

It’s always a sight to behold when Netflix produces a great original film, and this year has actually been pretty good with films including His Three Daughters, Rebel Ridge and Hit Man all scoring 95%+. I’ll be watching Daughters soon too, with those ratings and that cast.
