Slayer’s First Concert in Five Years at Riot Fest in Chicago

The headline performance at Douglass Park featured a 20-song set that didn’t stray too far from Slayer’s setlists from throughout their career. Farewell tour in 2019.

After starting with the ominous “South of Heaven” the band got right to the point Bloody Reign with a rendition of the deep cut “Reborn” — the song’s first performance since 2014. From there, every era of Slayer was represented, highlighted by staples like “Repentless,” “Seasons in the Abyss,” “Hell Awaits” and “213” (his first since 1998).

The final four-song volley brought the set to its climax: “Mandatory Suicide,” “Raining Blood,” “Black Magic” and the finale “Angel of Death.”

Slayer reunion continues with two more festival appearances in 2024 Louder Than Life in Louisville, Kentucky, on Friday (September 27) and Aftershock In Sacramento on October 10. Find last minute tickets Here.

The band has officially returned after bidding farewell to the stage following the aforementioned farewell tour in 2019. The lineup for that tour consisted of original members Kerry King (guitar) and Tom Araya (vocals/bass), along with drummer Paul Bostaph and guitarist Gary Holt. No plans to record new music or tourKing said he also didn’t rule out the possibility of playing additional select shows and festivals in the future.

Meanwhile, the guitarist founded his eponymous solo band simultaneously with the release of his first album in 2024. Rising from HellThe King had previously expressed his displeasure with what he called a thing. Early retirement by Slayerand immediately after his farewell tour he started working on his solo band.
