GoPro’s Latest HERO13 Black and HERO Action Cameras Are Now Available

GoPro announced their latest device, the HERO13 Black, and the all-new action camera duo HERO, which is available at every price point.

The brand’s flagship device is back for its thirteenth iteration with the aptly named HERO13 Black, which builds on the series’ Emmy-winning credentials to deliver the best action camera GoPro has ever made. The HERO13 Black can shoot 5.3K-quality video at 60 frames per second, promising crystal-clear footage in any situation. It can also shoot better slow-motion video than any HERO before it, with the ability to record at 400 frames per second in 720p quality, which the brand calls “13x Burst Slo-Mo.” Users can also shoot higher-quality slow-motion video at slightly lower frame rates, with 360 frames per second at 900p and 120 frames per second at full 5.3K resolution.

Speaking of video quality, the HERO13 Black can shoot video in the hybrid log-gamma (HLG) format. This should appeal to both professionals and prosumers, providing the opportunity to capture the action in a format that offers greater control in post-production. The battery in the new HERO13 Black has also seen improvements over the previous generation, with a 10% increase in capacity that the brand says will be valid in all weather conditions. Additionally, connectivity has been improved, with the HERO13 Black now featuring WiFi 6 technology for “up to 40%” faster content transfer speeds. Alongside all this, the new camera features a Magnetic Latch Mount for ease of use and accessory swapping, improved GPS functionality, and can be used with interchangeable lenses and lens attachments from GoPro’s ‘HB Series’, which includes an ultra-wide, anamorphic, and macro lens, as well as four different ND filters.

Launching alongside its new flagship model, the HERO is a tiny action camera that GoPro calls “the smallest, lightest, easiest to use, and most affordable 4K camera with a screen.” The HERO weighs just 3 ounces (86 grams), making it nearly half the mass of its larger sibling, the HERO13 Black (46% less, to be exact). It’s waterproof to 16ft (5m) and features both touchscreen controls and features, along with a single button to activate recording.

HERO can shoot slo-mo video at 2x speed in full 4K and still photos at 12 megapixels. Despite its small size, the battery is optimized for this and lasts for 100 minutes between charges.

The GoPro HERO13 Black ($399) and HERO ($199) are now available from the brand website.
