Aston Villa 3 Wolves 1: Matt Maher’s player ratings

Aston Villa 3 Wolves 1: Matt Maher’s player ratings

Emily Martinez 6

Well passed for goal by Cunha, then saved by Strand Larsen. Not called upon for any major action after that, but good handling.

Ezri Konsa7

One of the few Villa players to score differently in the second half than in the first. He likes to score against Wolves.

Diego Carlos 5

He made a mistake for the goal and looked a bit off-tempo before the break. It got much better.

Paul Torres 6

Strand allowed Larsen to get away for a great chance – one of the few players to improve after the break.

Lucas Digne5

He was very good in the opening month but couldn’t make much progress in attack here. He was replaced by Maatsen at half-time.

Amadou Onana 6

He won the ball a lot in the first half but couldn’t do much with it. He was replaced by Barkley for the second week in a row.

Youri Tielemans 7

Thanks to Lemina’s pressure, he was not allowed to enter the game in the first half. He had much more time to set the tempo in the second half.

John McGinn 6

He tried to get Villa going with a few runs before having to come off early in the first half with a hamstring injury.

Morgan Rogers 7

They performed well in the first 45 minutes but recovered as the match progressed and finished the match with two goal passes. They continued to work non-stop.

Jacob Ramsey 5

He had more space than any other Villa player in the first 45 minutes but didn’t make the most of it. He made too many bad decisions.

Ollie Watkins 7

Finally midway through the second half Villa had their first attempt on goal and then scored the equaliser. Relentless until the end.
