Roger Federer’s manager hopes the 20-time Grand Slam champion can make a proper return to the Laver Cup Rafael Nadal Next to him.

Federer and Tony Godsick created the team tournament together seven years ago. In 2022, the Swiss star retired at the Laver Cup after joining forces with Nadal for an emotional doubles match.

And Godsick wants the rivals to reunite in a new role.

John McEnroe and Bjorn Borg are stepping down as captains of Team World and Team Europe after seven successful seasons. Both men were initially signed on two-year contracts but have since moved on to manage opposing teams.

Andre Agassi will be the new leader of Team World from 2024. Fans were hoping to see Federer, the captain of Team Europe, for whom he has played four times.

Yannick Noah will replace Borg and take charge of the European squad next year, but Federer’s agent believes the tennis world could still see Federer take over the role and appoint a special vice-captain.

“My dream is for Roger to be captain, Rafa to be assistant and then vice versa,” Godsick said Brand“This way they would stay on duty longer.

“Their rivalry on the court was special, but I think their friendship off the court is even more special. It’s a clear example of how all competitors can get along.”

Federer and Nadal have met twice in doubles action at the Laver Cup, once during the Swiss star’s retirement and once in 2017, the tournament’s inaugural year.

And the idea of these two legendary competitors joining forces was one of the motivations behind Federer and Godsick creating the tournament.
