Rory McIlroy Loses BMW PGA Championship; Horschel Wins .53M in Playoff Cash | News, Scores, Highlights, Stats & Rumors

Rory McIlroy’s bid for the BMW PGA Championship and its $1.53 million prize money was rejected on Sunday.

The Irish golfer failed to make the playoff for the tournament title won by Billy Horschel, the second tournament in a row in which McIlroy failed immediately after finishing second in the Irish Open a week ago.

McIlroy said after the loss that he was pleased with his performance and felt ready to keep the momentum going.

“I’m excited for the future,” McIlroy said. Associated Press“I’m playing well, I keep giving myself a chance… I just need to pull myself together and get ready for the last three events of the year.”

For second place endMcIlroy earned $990,000.

It’s been a year of close finishes for McIlroy. He won at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic in January and the Wells Fargo Championship in May, but finishing second at the US Open and the last two tournaments showed how close he is to more victories.

He thought about it and admitted that it was frustrating to often fall short.

He will have some down time before his next tournament, scheduled to play in the Dunhill Links Championship in October, and McIlroy will be hoping to get back on track with a tournament victory.
